How to Stay Fit and Healthy in Sacramento
We moved to Sacramento, CA in February, 2008. The first thing I noticed was all the many shopping plazas. Nearly every corner with a stoplight also has a shopping center accompanying it. Many of the shopping centers have stores, fitness centers and restaurants that promote a healthy lifestyle.

Whole Foods Market is located on Arden Way in Sacramento. Whole Foods Market sells only the best food and produce. Everything they sell is inspected and they make sure everything is fresh, and without preservatives, hydrogenated fats, colors and artificial sweeteners. They also have a large selection of organic foods.
Elliot’s Natural Foods has been in business since 1952. They now have three locations one in Citrus Heights, CA, Folsom, CA and their newest location in Rocklin.
Elliot’s is Sacramento’s original natural food store. They sell everything from organic produce and groceries, plus vitamins and supplements. You can visit them at 8063 Greenback Ln in Citrus Heights, 641 East Bidwell in Folsom or 6671 Blue Oaks Blvd in Rocklin, CA.
Sacramento is also home to over 300 Health Clubs. Wow I can tell this city wants to make sure it’s citizens are fit and healthy.
On Eighth street in downtown Sacramento you can find one of the top health clubs in our area, Capital Athletic Club. It is not your average health club. It’s members can also enjoy premium amenities such as saunas, executive lockers, shoe shine and even laundry service.

Capital Athletic Club also offers massages, a spa and hair salon. Join Capital Athletic Club today.
On Fair Oaks Blvd, in Sacramento you can find the Arden Hills Resort Club and Spa. Not only is Arden Hills a Health Club it is also a wellness resort. They were voted the Best Day spa in Sacramento Magazines the Best of Sacramento. Members enjoy wellness services and over 75 spa services and treatments. They also have a boutique, membership rewards and a kids corner where your children can go and learn about wellness while you enjoy the activities at the resort. That sounds pretty darn cool to me.

Other fitness clubs and fitness activities you might want to check out in Sacramento include:
California Family Fitness
24 Hour Fitness
and Martial Arts Schools in Sacramento.
My daughter is a black belt and attends Orangevale Family Taekwondo Center on Greenback Lane in Orangevale, CA.
If you can’t afford to join a gym or martial arts school Sacramento has many free ways to get fit. One of my favorite places to go is the American River Bike Trail. You can ride your bike down the scenic path or walk or hike the trail.
There are several places where you can park your car and start out on the trail. We like to park in the lot just off of Watt Avenue. Here’s more information on the American River Bike Trail
There are also bike paths in Roseville, Natomas, and all throughout the city of Sacramento.
Okay so you don’t own a bike or maybe you are like me and haven’t ridden a bike since you were twelve. The bike trails I mentioned above are also recreational trails which means you can roller blade, skateboard, walk, run or hike these trails as well. Physical fitness can be fun and rewarding.
After a long workout I like to enjoy a healthy snack such as fresh fruit. The Sacramento area offers great places where you can purchase enjoy fresh California produce.
There are several certified farmer’s markets in Sacramento. You can find their times and locations here. I also enjoy taking my family to Denios Farmers Market and Swap Meet in Roseville, CA. You can find the freshest produce at unbeatable prices only at Denios.
If you are hoping to eat better, take more vitamins and supplements, get fit or just relax and stay healthy Sacramento provided plenty of opportunities for just that. If you don’t live near Sacramento you might want to check out what health and fitness resources your community has to offer.
