As parents we should teach our children how important it is to take care of our beautiful earth. The best way to do this is by example. Do you recycle or just throw everything together in one garbage? If you are in a public park with your kids and you see trash laying around do you just leave it there? When was the last time you planted a tree? How about doing that with your children. These are just a few simple things that you can do to help keep our home beautiful.

If you would like to make a difference you can sign up for the Audubon's TogetherGreen initiative. TogetherGreen is a new volunteer program that encourages people to do conservation projects in their community. Did I mention that you could win great prizes just for participating!

Here's how the program works; first think about what types of volunteer activities you would like to participate in then visit the Together Green website and read "How It Works." There you can download your community passport and sign up to get involved in as many different conservation projects and activities as possible. The contest runs from April 22 through July 22, 2009.

You could also win fabulous prizes including, a grand prize of two LL Bean bicycles for emission-free traveling fun. Other environmentally friendly prizes include a Sierra Designs Tent, an REI Trail Pack and water bottles, and TogetherGreen t-shirts.

The Community Passport contest is part of the five-year TogetherGreen alliance between Audubon and Toyota, created to help individuals act now to cause a positive impact in their homes, their communities, and the world.

Sounds like a cool contest. I wish more people would start to do things for the environment. I'll have to check this out.
