Weekend Reflection #59 | Preterm Labor and a Breech Baby

It's time once again to reflect on the past week. What were some of the positive things that happened? What really bothered you? Did you laugh? Cry? Stand on your head? Whatever you did this past week I want to hear it. Writing down all the crazy things that happened over the past week is a good way to deal with stress. As our lives get busier and busier along with it is stress. It is time to let it all out so you can enjoy your weekend. This week went by kind of slow but with much excitement. Monday was boring but all the fireworks began on Tuesday.

I had my ob appointment Tuesday morning. After telling the midwife that I woke up at 2 am in severe pain and have been having contractions all morning she sent me to the hospital. They treated me for preterm labor and I was sent home later that evening. They couldn't feed me anything because my baby is breech and they didn't know for sure if I would need a c section that day or not. When my doctor arrived he decided that I could go home and the baby was not going to be born just yet. I am now 32 1/2 weeks.

All of my babies were born early because I tend to go into preterm labor. I had my first child at 36 weeks, second at 35 weeks and third at 37 1/2 weeks. I have a feeling that this one is going to be born even earlier. But we need him to turn first!

When I was sent home Tuesday night all they gave me was a suppository which is not controlling the contractions at all. So I have been in pain all week. My back hurts, my hips hurt, my legs hurt and I am extremely tired. I just want to get this over with.

The kids stayed at Grandma and Grandpa's on Tuesday and Wednesday. Thursday and Friday they were with me. Courtney tried her best to help out but she can only do so much for the little ones. Needless to say I was up and about for diaper changes, food preparation, "Mommy Snuggle time," changing clothes and discipline. Courtney still complained about having to watch the kids all day and not getting to take a shower right when she woke up. Meanwhile, I was exhausted and extremely sore. On Thursday my contractions started in the mid afternoon and did not go away until later that night. Friday they started a little earlier. But I refuse to go back to that hospital until it is absolutely necessary.

Lynn, one of our writers, sent me a link to this great website that teaches you exercise techniques to help turn your baby before birth. My baby is what they call transverse, meaning he is laying sideways. The site, Spinning Babies, suggests that you do this technique called an inversion or you can try the breech tilt. But with a transverse lying baby the inversion usually works better. Yesterday I had Courtney help me do an inversion. I think I am going to keep trying that every day along with using my hand massager to loosen my ligaments. I can feel a contraction coming on right now so today is going to be another long and painful day.

I would love to hear how your week went. Join in the fun and don't forget to leave your link!

Wow, that's painful. I thought the graphics you included were intriguing. (sp?) I hope things go alittle smoother for you the next couple weeks...if that is, you last that long.

Best of luck to you!

btw, how did you get your website link to show up in the google friend connect without having a blogspot url? I've been unable to figure that out to put mine in my profile.

I'm so sorry you are in pain :( I hope that those techniques turn your baby - I have several friends with success stories after following spinning babies.com's advice. My son was posterior so I'm definitely going to be aware of my baby's position next time (because I had a 4 hr pushing phase - ick). I pray that your baby is born healthy and that you stay that way, too!

Thank you for the comment on my post about Logan's fist year timeline. You have recorded a lot of great moments here, too, that you'll be glad to have in the future!
