Wordless Wednesday | Yellow Pear Tomatoes

This is the first time I have grown this variety of tomatoes. I am anxious to try them too. I've heard that they are sweeter than other varieties.

Right now my yellow pear tomatoes are green so I am going to add an image of what they look like when they are ripe.

Here is a close up of my yellow pear tomatoes.

This is another close up of the same bunch. They are small and will not get much bigger either. They are about two inches long.

The plant stands over 5 feet. I am 5'1" and it is well over my head. It is also loaded with tomatoes.

Here is what they will look like when they are ready to be picked.

Here's a couple of recipes I found using Yellow Pear Tomatoes

Yellow Pear Tomato Preserves

Cut a thin slice from blossom end and press out seeds and discard.

Add thinly sliced lemon and minced or sliced ginger.

Boil about 10 minutes longer.

Pour into hot jars and seal at once.

Recipe: Roasted Yellow Pear Tomatoes

2 pints yellow pear tomatoes, washed with stems removed
Olive oil for oiling the pan

Oil an 8×8 glass baking dish with the olive oil. Add tomatoes.

For quick roasting: Bake at 400F for 20 minutes. The tomatoes will release juice and collapse. Quick-roasted tomatoes are done when the tomato liquid released just starts to brown around the edges of the pan.

For slow roasting: Bake at 250F for 45 minutes to 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes to keep the tomato skins coated with juices. Slow-roasted tomatoes are done when they are a rich golden color throughout and the liquid has reduced and thickened.

Want healthy hair? Have it the Philip Kingsley Way!

Hair care should be as important to you as you would care for your skin.

After all it's the first thing people notice and do we not notice when someone has healthy hair and skin?   We want it and instantly ask, "What do you use? "
Healthy is the key word for your hair and skin as these represent your health and it does reveal our stress, when our hormones are out of whack(pregnancy and post pardum), the chemicals/toxins we encounter, environmental damage and whatever else we come into contact with on our day to day lives.
Our skin and hair take the brunt of it and we take it for granted but that's okay, where would cosmetic companies be without us?!
Thank god there's product out there to help nourish our hair and protect it.
Love the pool?  Chlorine dries out the hair as does water.  Drinking water will not make your skin hydrated as well, it has no effect on the  skins lipid levels.
To combat this apply Philip Kingsley Swim Cap it guards against discoloration and damage caused by sun, chlorine, salt water and wind.  My life saver. Second Philip Kingsley Elasticizer.  Did any one of you moms notice a complete change in hair post pardum?  Again, how hormones effect our body as mentioned above.
I was left bone dry, my dear son took everything from me and I was left dry, dry, dry.
Then I came across The Elasticizer.
A pre shampoo treatment that provided elasticity, UV protection and prolongs colour if you dye your hair.
It seems the whole Philip Kingsely line provides the care and protection we need to have HEALTHY, beautiful, run through your fingers hair! This is skincare for your hair.

Now That's Salsa!

I have to tell you, I have a lot of friends who are going to be very happy with me for this one. I bring this salsa to every summertime party, and I am always asked for the recipe. I give it, of course. But this is the first time I've written down all of the measurements for it.

Let's start with the prepackaged ingredients.

Drain and rinse one 15 ounce can of black beans. Add one cup of frozen corn (don't worry about thawing it), and one 28 ounce can of whole tomatoes. I like whole tomatoes because I can roughly chop them or break them up with my hands. If you're in a hurry, though, or you don't like squishing tomatoes between your fingers, diced tomatoes work well too. When you thoroughly drain the tomatoes, be sure to save the juice. You can reduce it later for a delicious tomato sauce!

Now, for the chopping!

Dice half a large onion (or one small one), one fresh tomato (and you can always add more tomato if you'd like) and one tomatillo. Add the onion and red tomato raw, but simmer the tomatillo in 2 tablespoons of oil until tender.

Once tender, puree the diced tomatillo and oil in a food processor, or very finely dice it by hand. To evenly distribute the heat throughout your salsa, finely chop (or dice in the food processor) one jalapeno. Add one cup of chopped cilantro and four minced cloves of garlic.

Season the salsa with the juice from one lime (and three teaspoons of lime flesh). Finish it with two tablespoons of rice wine vinegar, one teaspoon of sea salt and one teaspoon of cumin.

This salsa is so good you'll want to eat it with a spoon. But it's also the perfect topping for a delicious taco salad!
